Don’t Do These When Blogging
blogging tips October 29th, 2007
When everybody is really into blogging, the joy and excitement of using the various type of themes, tools and plugins would make someone lost their focus in writing. In blogging, people is looking forward to read your information, tips and personal, not to see some miscellaneous things that you had embedded on your blog.
Here are some advises on Don’t Do :
- Blog Being Revamped or under maintainance
When you came across the maintaince page, what would you feel as a reader? Of course you will not to visit the blog again since you don’t know when will the blog will be up again. As a serious blogger, the main thing that really important for them is visitors. When visitors pay a visit, they would not consider to make a visit again after seeing the notice. In their perspective, they will likely to make another visit for 2-3 weeks. Instantly, you will losing your visitors.

Blinkblog say,
Why do you care to revamp your website? You are using wordpress! This script is super great and you don’t even need to close your blog for modification. This is a dynamic site not a static site. In fact, there are thousand of wordpress theme are ready to be used. I am simply say that even your so-called maintaince page is beautiful, you just losing your credibility as a blogger.
- Bandwidth Exceeded
It is totally a piss off when seeing the bandwidth exceeded message. From my experience, if you receive an enormous amount of traffic, please do upgrade your hosting package. Instead of earning a lot of traffic, you will lose the visitors instantly. Especially when your blog cannot be accessed for the whole month. There is another method, deal with the hosting company to bill an extra charges on excessive bandwidth, not to block it.

BlinkBlog say,
Most of the company will be charging an extra Usd 1 for every 1000 MB of bandwidth. I’m rather to spend more money on buying a better hosting package than losing my site’s visitors. For me, visitors are priceless. They come once, they like, they would stay.
- Too Many Unnecessary Button
There is when you come to one blog, it do has a lot of button. I mean, really much of it! To make more clearer, some noob will think that by putting more button will make their blogs look cooler and even better. In fact, the button is use to link some other’s blog. It does take a lot of bandwidth and loading page times. From expert’s experience, readers will stay not more than 8 seconds for your pages to load, so the faster is the better.

Blinkblog say,
I don’t understand why we have to put other links by applying the button. For me, by putting the links in blogroll is enough. Fact, some of us are paying more than Usd20 per month just for buying a text link ads. So, by putting a button in your blog don’t make a sense for you, unless they are really giving you money. Thus, putting the button just costing you more bandwidth and more money to spent with.

blogging tips October 7th, 2007
I’ve been conducting some experiments on retaining the blog visitors. The rules are very simple, but somewhat it is hard to implement if you don’t repeat it with consistency. In fact, a lot of successful websites depend on returning visitors to account for a major part of their traffic. For a new blog, to build the credibility of the blog will consume a lot of hard works and efforts. Since gaining visitors is a hard work, therefore we need to practice some tips to retain our blog visitors.

Rules of not losing your visitors
- Kiss, Keep It Short and Simple. Before you are buying the domain name, you should think a word that short and easily be remembered by the visitors. A short term memory can resist within 48 hours. In order to turn the short term memory into a long term memory, a simple yet meaningful word can help the brain to make an input to the memory. Therefore, a domain within 2-3 syllables is appropriate to make your visitors keep remember about your blog.
- Start a forum, chatbox, comment function is the most best practice to retain your blog’s visitors. This type of media can ensure yourselves to interact with your blog’s readers. As conversations build up, a sense of community will also follow and your visitors will come back to your site almost religiously every day.
- Update frequently with fresh content. The blog posting frequency can determine whether your blog readers should stay on the site or not. This is the most widely known and most effective method of attracting returning visitors, but this is also the least carried out one because of the laziness of webmasters. This is some useful information on frequent basis of posting at Guide on blog posting frequency - part 1
- Hold puzzles, quizzes and games. If you have more money, organizing a competition will give your blog an exposure in the blogosphere. The prizes relatively not very expensive, but can give some value added to them. Money, domain, hosting, ebook and custom design template of wordpress will be a good choice of prizes. Just imagine how many office workers procrastinate at work every day, and you will be able to gauge how many people will keep visiting your site if you provide a very interesting or addicting way of entertainment.
- Carry out polls or surveys. Polls and surveys are other forms of interaction that you should definitely consider adding to your site. They provide a quick way for visitors to voice their opinions and to get involved in your website. Be sure to publish polls or surveys that are strongly relevant to the target market of your website to keep them interested to find out about the results.
After all, please be make sure to embed the tracking code inside your blog for analyzing your achievement. This can be an indicator for you to set a future target on gaining more visitors to your blogs.
